For over twenty-five years, Curtain Call has provided a variety of dramatic arts classes and workshops for kids, teens and adults!

Scholarships and payment plans available for families in need: To apply, simply submit a copy of your most recent tax return, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, instructor, mentor or coach who has worked with your child, and a letter from you and/or your child stating why our workshop program may be beneficial to you/him/her. About our classes, educational philosophy and staff: Curtain Call’s performance classes and workshops are focused in building not only performance skills, but confidence, social skills, presentation skills, creative instincts, teamwork and leadership qualities. We cater to all skill levels whether the raw-beginner or experienced professional and offer a low-pressure environment where students are able to explore and develop creative techniques applicable to any performance situation. Classes range from six to sixteen students and run once a week for eight-week sessions fall, winter and spring. Winter and summer vacation programs are also available.
 
Our staff consists of area professionals devoted to education in the arts (see their credentials in the sidebar to the right). Our classroom spaces provide nurturing, creative environments for students of all skill levels, from the novice to the seasoned professional:
 
The Kweskin Studio

Located on the second level of our Kweskin Theatre, the Kweskin Studio is the same dimensions as the building’s main-stage. It is equipped with full-length mirrors for dance, air-conditioning, bathrooms on the same level and sound-proofing.

The Dressing Room Theatre (DRT) Studio

While slightly smaller than our Kweskin Studio, our DRT Studio (located on the second level of Curtain Call’s Dressing Room Theatre) also provides full-length mirrors for dance, air conditioning, sound proofing and a bathroom within the studio itself. The room allows for considerable classroom privacy.

Curtain Call follows the Stamford Public Schools calendar as to vacation, holiday and weather-related closings. For emergency or weather-related closing information, watch our website, News Channel 12 or tune in to 1400 WSTC.
 

Refund policy: 100% refund if notified of withdrawal up to 7 days prior to the starting date of the class. 75% refund if notified of withdrawal less than 7 days prior to the starting date of the class. 50% refund if notified of withdrawal prior to the 2nd class date. NO refunds beyond the 2nd class date.

Using song and movement as storytelling tools, students learn the basics of musical theatre performance as they prepare and perform a mini-musical for an invited audience on the final class! As an ensemble, they will learn stage direction, vocalization exercises and most importantly, how music can help to move or drive a story. All students must be available for the showcase performance on the final date (June 6).

Storybook Stages - circa 2008 Storybook Stages Spring 2016

 In this drama class, students will be introduced to a genre of children’s literature such as; fractured fairy tales, Aesop’s fables, fiction and non-fiction stories that will be use to teach educational lessons. Together with their instructor, they will develop their own stage adaptation of these tales that will include acting, dancing/movement and music!  At the end of this course the students will present this performance for an invited audience.  This acting class promises to be fun, exciting, memorable and one-of-a-kind.  The students will leave this class with a better understanding of basic theater. All students must be available for the showcase performance on the final date (June 8).

 A “triple threat” on Broadway is a performer who can sing, act and move well: music, movement and motivation work together in any musical number to tell the story. Harness these elements and build strong performance skills as we examine the best of Broadway! Students will learn how to not only sing a musical number, but explore musical staging, stage directions, how to act a song and most importantly how to vocally blend and work together creatively as an ensemble. Acting games and exercises will also be incorporated into the curriculum. Students will perform a showcase for family and friends on the final date (June 12) for which ALL students must be available.

Laughter is something we all can share in and enjoy! In this eight-week workshop, young actors will learn how to tap into their own creative ideas and instincts as they explore improv, sketches, physical comedy, parody, limericks and joke-telling! They’ll also build confidence and teamwork skills as they learn to trust in themselves and their fellow actors.

Challenge your creativity by putting on your own show! In this eight-week workshop, students will learn the process of creative collaboration as they collaborate with their instructor to create their own performance piece to be presented to an audience of family and friends on the final class. Students will work (in accordance with a carefully-planned outline) on developing characters and providing creative contributions to their script. All students must be available for the showcase performance on the final date (June 10).

Young Actor’s Toolbox: Variety Pack of Acting Styles (ages 11-13)

This class offers a variety of study in improv/comedy, stage and on-camera acting, monologues and even Shakespeare. Students will develop self-confidence as a new topic is introduced every two weeks. They will learn how to adapt to different performance situations, whether it’s an audition, a film or TV shoot, or a full-scale, stage production.
