Winter 2021 Classes

(March 3, 2021)

We are currently in the process of updating this web page with information on our Spring 2021 Session of Classes. This should be completed by March 8, 2021. Spring classes will run April 12 to June 12, 2021.

In-person classes will take place on limited days of the week (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) in accordance with a strict cleaning and sanitizing schedule and the safety and health guidelines listed below. Online classes will take place Mondays and Tuesdays. If our in-person classes are unable to run, they will be offered online. Class listings can be found on and below our calendar.

Summerstock Junior: Session Two (Grade K to 5)

Grades K thru 2:

Music Box Theatre Grade K to 2 (IN-PERSON)

Instructor: Natasha Fenster

Thursdays, 4:15pm to 5:00pm

Using song, character expression and carefully coordinated gestures as storytelling tools, students will assemble a virtual mini-musical based upon a story or fable. Students will be cast in various roles and provided with a script and recorded music tracks. The class will also include special craft projects that can be done with items at home which will be incorporated into their performance which will be recorded at the end of the session. Class materials and recordings will be provided through a Google Classroom.

Budding Actor’s Workshop Grade K to 2 (IN-PERSON)

Instructor: Tony Republicano

Saturdays, 10:00am to 11:15am

(No class 5/29 for Memorial Day Weekend.)

This no-pressure class environment allows students to explore a variety pack of acting tools and techniques for budding young talents including improv, character creation, monologues, scenes, sketches, on-camera scenes and commercials. Build confidence, presentation, social and public speaking skills. Highlights of the students’ work will be recorded and made available to families for viewing.

Grades 3 thru 5:

Broadway Melodies: Musical Performance for Kids Grade 3 to 5 (IN-PERSON)

Instructor: Jonathan Cahr

Wednesdays, 4:15pm to 5:30pm

Musical theatre singing is not just about vocal quality, but character and storytelling as well. In this class, students will examine a few Broadway numbers, exploring character choices and story line as well building vocal technique and blending as an ensemble.

On the Spot: Comedy and Improv for Kids Grade 3 to 5 (IN-PERSON)

Instructor: Tony Republicano

Saturdays 12:30pm to 2:00pm

Laughter is something we all share and enjoy! In this eight-week, low-pressure, workshop, young actors will tap into their own creative ideas and instincts as they explore improv, sketches, physical comedy, parody and joke-telling! They’ll build confidence and teamwork as they learn to trust in themselves and their fellow actors, and recognize the difference between appropriate and inappropriate humor. As this is primarily a skill-building class, students should not feel pressure to hold a showcase performance, but can if the class so decides.

Grades 5 thru 8:

LOL: Comedy and Improv for Tweens Grade 6 to 8 (IN-PERSON)

If you’ve got a talent and a love for making people laugh, this eight-week workshop is for you! Sharpen your timing, heighten your instincts, develop your own comedic characters and ideas as you explore improv, sketch, physical comedy, parody and stand-up. As this is primarily a skill-building class, students should not feel pressure to hold a showcase performance, but can if the class so decides.

Theatre Jazz for Tweens Grade 5 to 8 (IN-PERSON)

Instructor: Kristine Bingham Nielsen

Thursdays, 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Designed for young actors who may not be trained dancers but want to improve their dance skills for musical theatre performance and auditions, and become more confident and secure with their body movement onstage. Each class includes combinations that include steps commonly used in musical choreography set to musical tracks from various Broadway favorites.

Registration: $128 for all eight weeks (10% off all eight-week registrations made by March 27, 2021) or register as a drop in at $16 per class.

 

Grades 8 thru 10:

TV and Film Acting Online Grade 8 to 10 with former NYC casting director Lisa Lelas (ONLINE)

Instructor: Lisa Lelas

Mondays, 4:30pm to 6:00pm

Acting for the camera comes closer to reality than acting on stage and requires its own, unique set of skills. In this eight-week workshop, you’ll build the basic skills necessary to act and audition for television, film and commercials using actual network and film scripts. Explore how body and facial gestures convey important information to a viewing audience and how the camera lens can become your best friend. You’ll also receive tips for finding agents and booking professional work. Classes will meet using Zoom. Class materials and recordings of student work will be posted through a Google Classroom.
