We are currently working on setting our Summerstock 2024 schedule. We anticipate this should be finalized by January 8, 2024.
General information about our Summerstock Workshop Programs is available below. PLEASE NOTE: the anticipated program dates may be subject to change before January 8, 2024.
Curtain Call’s Summerstock and Summerstock Junior are full-day, conservatory-style workshop programs in dramatic and musical theatre arts. Students hone creative, collaborative and social skills as well as performance skills. Each session runs two weeks and accommodates a maximum of 40 students. Those students are then placed in age-appropriate groups for a rotating schedule of study in a variety of performance subjects under a team of specialized instructors. For example:
Monday |
Group A |
Group B |
Group C |
Class 1 |
Voice |
Acting |
Dance |
Class 2 |
Dance |
Voice |
Acting |
Class 3 |
Acting |
Dance |
Voice |
(See the session descriptions below for what specific areas of study each session explores).
Class work is highlighted in a student showcase at the end of each session. A lunch and snack break will be part of the daily schedule. Lunch will normally take place on the playground and picnic area of the Sterling Farms property, weather permitting, or in our Dressing Room Theatre where tables are available for seating. Students should bring their own lunch and snacks in a bag or lunch box, as well as a water bottle, clearly labeled with their name. Please avoid packing any nut-related items as a number of students (and sometimes staff) often suffer from nut-related allergies.
ALL CORRESPONDENCE WITH PARENTS WILL TAKE PLACE BY EMAIL. Once you have registered, you will receive an automated confirmation from our online system. Further information and any necessary forms (waivers, photo releases and emergency/medical forms) will be sent via email at least two weeks prior to the start of the session (if not sooner). If you do have questions in the meantime, please contact Education Director Brian Bianco at brian@curtaincallinc.com or 203-329-8207 (x700).
Sibling Discounts and Payment Plan Options are available. Scholarships are available for students in need. Details on how to apply as well as information on our staff’s backgrounds can be found in the sidebar to the right if you are on your computer or tablet (or to the bottom if you are on your phone).

*No class 9/25 (Yom Kippur) or 10/9 (Columbus/ Indigenous Peoples Day)
This class is a dance/ movement class to help students build confidence in movement and learn how actors can use their bodies to create characters and tell stories. Young performers will build comfort and confidence in learning to use their bodies as acting tools. Acting requires more than words. Actors and dancers use their bodies and facial expressions to inform the audience of what kind of personality they are, and what they are feeling and thinking. Just simply how a character stands or how they walk can tell us an awful lot about them. (A giant would move very differently than a mouse, for example.) In this class, students will use music and movement exercises, and choreography to get in tune with their bodies creatively, and explore how body language, posture, gesture and facial expression can be used as effectively as a costume in order to create a character. They will also use masks and work with props.
Registration: $136 for all eight weeks or register as a drop-in at just $20 per class.

This class is a skill-building and confidence-boosting class in how to prepare for various auditions: singing, acting, and dance. Does your child wish to audition for the next big show, but lacks confidence or isn’t sure how to properly prepare for what’s expected? This workshop is designed to help! Students will build confidence in their skills and how to present themselves. They’ll learn how to pick the right song for themselves (that showcases their vocal and acting ability), and exactly what 32 bars of that song to audition with. They’ll also build confidence in tackling cold readings from scripts, as well as dance auditions. By the end of our eighth week, students will learn that auditions are not meant to be intimidating, but an opportunity for hopeful actors to shine!

This class is an exploratory workshop for both new and experienced script writers. Bring your ideas to the page! Explore the process of developing a script from thesis statement to final draft: creating a thesis that will get your script boldly started, developing characters, dialogue, conflict, dramatic tension, setting up humor and timing, and providing actors with a clear storyline and path to follow. Laptops or other electronic devices will be used for those who have them available, and scripts will be shared using a classroom drive. (For those without laptops or devices, Curtain Call does have a number of laptops available for student use in the classroom.) Students will also have the opportunity to hear their pieces read in class, and engage in constructive and productive feedback.
