General Audition Information
No appointments are needed. Just show up and you will be seen in the order you arrive. Of course, if you’re asked to stay to read and/or dance, you may be around a while. If auditioning for a musical, prepare a brief song in the style of the show and have sheet music in the proper key. The song should showcase the style and vocal range of the character for which you are auditioning. This should be something that you are very comfortable with, not something you just learned recently.
Also, bring proper footwear to dance in if needed. For non-musicals, you will be given pre-selected sides from the script.

ALL SHOOK UP is a hilarious and heartfelt musical with an original book by Joe DiPietro. It is loosely based on Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT, it’s 1955 and into a square little town rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets. Featuring mega hits from the beloved Elvis® catalogue this musical fantasy will have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”
This is a high energy show with great harmonies and a lot of dancing. There are a number of featured roles, but the show is really driven by a very active ensemble.
ALL ROLES OPEN
(We welcome and encourage performers of all ethnicities to audition.)
NATALIE HELLER / “ED”: (mezzo-belt) A young woman and an excellent mechanic. She is much more at home in greasy overalls than in a dress. Disguises herself as a troublemaker named “Ed” to try and get closer to Chad.
CHAD: (baritone/tenor) A great-lookin’, motorcyclin’, guitar-playin’, leather-jacketed roustabout. Chad comes to town and shakes things up for everyone. Mistakenly falls in love with Sandra.
JIM HALLER:
(baritone) Natalie’s widowed father; middle-aged and messy, he still longs for his wife.
SYLVIA:
(alto) Lorraine’s mother. The no-nonsense owner of “SYLVIA’S HONKY-TONK”. She is like a mother to Natalie and doesn’t let Matilda push her around. She is strong, sassy, and outspoken.
LORRAINE:
(mezzo-belt) Sylvia’s teenage daughter who works at the HONKY TONK. Pretty, smart, and a total romantic. Falls head over heels for Dean and convinces him to rebel against his mother for the first time ever.
DENNIS:
(tenor) Natalie’s best friend and secret admirer. He is wide-eyed, awkward, an aspiring dentist, and a hopeless romantic. Nerd with a heart of gold and great comedic timing.
MISS SANDRA: (mezzo-belt) The beautiful , intellectual caretaker of the town’s museum who accidentally falls for “Ed”. She is relentlessly pursued by Chad, whom she cannot stand.
MAYOR MATILDA HYDE: (alto) The town’s ULTRA-conservative mayor. She doesn’t like Chad and is determined to get the bad influences of rock ‘n’ roll out of her town.
DEAN HYDE:
(tenor) Matilda’s son. He has spent his youth at military boarding schools and has never disobeyed his mother. He falls in love with Lorraine and his mother does not approve.
SHERRIF EARL: (minimal singing) The law in town and a man of VERY few words. He loyally follows the Mayor wherever she goes.
ENSEMBLE: Play an assortment of people throughout the show. Very active tracks with a lot of singing and dancing involved.

Callbacks
We often don’t need to see people at a callback. Sometimes we see all we need to at the initial auditions. Not being called back does not mean you are not being considered for the production.
Casting
We do our best to be respectful to all who audition by reaching out to those who have not been cast. We always ask those cast to keep that information to themselves until we have reached everyone who was not cast. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen, and our best efforts at sparing hard feelings are thwarted.
Generally, our rehearsals run Monday through Thursday evenings from 7: to 10:00 PM. Some Saturday mornings will be scheduled for set-building, etc.
Sunday afternoons are often added later in the process.
Safe Space
As part of our ongoing efforts at providing a safe, nurturing environment at Curtain Call, and after several years of doing one-by-one (with 300+ participants annually) online searches for any issues with all employees, volunteer actors, crew, etc., we are moving to an online source (Spot Screening) that streamlines the process for us. They can handle this process in a more timely and complete manner.
There have been no incidents here at Curtain Call. We are just being ever-conscious of issues around us in the world. Those of you who follow the OnStage Blog know that this has been an issue of concern. Read Chris Peterson’s Read Chris Peterson’s columns on two CT issues:
