Curtain Call Inc, Stamford's longest-running and only non-profit producing theatre company, offers a comprehensive range of performing arts classes for all ages. Our WINTER 2026 Classes will begin January 5 and our lineup caters to aspiring performers from kindergarten through adulthood. Classes are structured to nurture talent, build confidence, and foster a love for the performing arts.

CLASSES FOR GRADES K TO 2

Stage-a-Story: A PERFORMANCE CLASS FOR Grades K to 2

Instructors: Josh Pickel and Justin Villard

In this nine-week drama class, students will develop stage adaptations based on children’s literature, such as fractured fairy tales, cultural fables, children’s fiction, and non-fiction stories that will be used to teach educational lessons. (A new adaptation is explored each session for recurring students.) Music and movement will be incorporated. Together, they will learn basic stage skills and direction, explore character development, creative use of movement, develop stage-speaking skills, and build confidence! At the end of this course, the students will present this performance for an invited audience (with costumes, props, minor set pieces, and stage lighting) on the final date, March 14, during the scheduled class time. (While March 21 is reserved as a make-up date, should a class experience an emergency/ weather cancellation, our performance will be held March 28, because of technical rehearsals happening on our Kweskin stage March 21 and 22.) This acting class promises to be fun, exciting and memorable. All students must be available for the showcase performance.

Budding Actors Workshop: A skill-building variety pack for Grades K to 2

This eight-week, low-pressure class environment allows students to explore a variety pack of acting tools and techniques for budding young talents including improv, character creation, and tackling scripted scenes/sketches and commercials, without the pressure of rehearsing and preparation associated with putting on a show. Build confidence, presentation, social and public speaking skills. Highlights of the students’ work have often been presented in an informal showcase for an invited audience at the end of the session if the class is comfortable.

Broadway Melodies: A Musical Theatre ENSEMBLE Workshop for Grades 3 to 6

This nine-week class will incorporate singing, movement, and acting for musical theatre performance, helping students to hone skills and confidence in each. Students will work on a few different numbers from a variety of shows that the class will develop as an ensemble; learning the basics of vocal technique, blending as a group, working as a team, explore basics of acting a song, as well as incorporating stage movement. The class will culminate in an informal showcase performance for family and friends on our final date, March 17, during the scheduled class time. (Should a class experience an emergency/ weather cancellation, our performance will be moved to the next available makeup date.) Anyone who is unavailable for the showcase performance should let us know when they register.

On the Spot: Comedy and Improv for Kids, Grades 3 to 6

If you’ve got a talent and a love for making people laugh, this eight-week workshop is for you! Humor speaks to all personalities and is an effective way of channeling creativity to make poignant and relevant commentary. In this class, young actors will tap into their own creative ideas and instincts as they explore improv, physical comedy, parody, and learn about comedic timing! They’ll build confidence and teamwork as they learn to trust in themselves and their fellow actors, and recognize the difference between appropriate and inappropriate humor. (Games and exercises are often varied from session to session for recurring students.)

Designed for young actors looking to develop more comfort and confidence with dance and movement, particularly musical theatre styles, this eight-week class will lay a foundation of technique while providing a fun and exciting classroom environment that will help you develop comfort and confidence. Build basic skills that will help you in both audition and performance situations and give you more assurance while also having fun!

In this nine-week drama class, students will develop skills as both actors and writers and develop their own, original showcase performance as they tap into their own original ideas, and engage in creative collaboration through the use of theatre games and exercises. Over the session, they will each create, develop, and prepare their own original character (including an original costume design), construct and write their own monologue for that character, then ultimately, an interactive scene with one or more of the other characters created by their fellow students. All students must be available for their performance on the final date, March 14, during the scheduled class time. (Should a class experience an emergency/ weather cancellation, our performance will be moved to the next available make-up date.)

In this eight-week course, you’ll explore techniques that push you to greater heights, build confidence, help you become a stronger scene partner, and a more well-rounded actor. Learn about character objectives, obstacles, how to make character driven choices, how to play a character’s intention and not simply their emotion, and how to make more calculated use of eye contact, facial expression, gesture, body centers, and proper breath support. Students will apply these techniques and skills to their scene and monologue work.

Ever wonder what it's like to be on “Saturday Night Live?” In this nine-week course, participants will dive into the fundamentals of comedy writing and learn how to transform a simple idea into a hilarious sketch. Taught by Broadway leading actor and sketch comedy writer and performer Christopher John O’Neill (Helen Hayes award winner for his role as Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon), this interactive class will immerse students in the fundamentals of crafting original comedic pieces, culminating in the performance of those pieces on our final date, March 17. (Should a class experience an emergency/ weather cancellation, our performance will be moved to the next available make-up date.) All students must be available for the final showcase. The collaborative environment fostered in this course encourages students to take risks and let their imaginations run wild. By engaging with their peers and receiving constructive feedback, students will enhance their skills and creativity as writers as well as actors. More than just a class, this experience seeks to create a space where students can experiment with various comedic styles, and foster a supportive atmosphere where laughter and creativity thrive. We believe that everyone, regardless of their prior experience with comedy, will find their niche in this collaborative journey. There are no “bad” ideas here—just moments of inspiration waiting to be unlocked! This course promises to be a fun and enriching experience that can launch their journey into the world of comedy.

Measure for Measure: A Song Study Workshop for Adults

In this eight-week course, you’ll strengthen vocal technique and breakdown songs to explore both their technical and storytelling components. Learn to interpret the underlying and hidden clues in the music that lead to discovery of character, objective, conflict, emotionality, and develop pieces you can use for auditions, concerts, or cabaret performances. Students are welcome to bring in songs they are already working on or new songs they are interested in exploring. Song resources will also be made available to students. An informal recital at the end of the session is optional.

Off the Cuff: Short-Form Adult Improv 101

Improv is unscripted, allowing artists to draw from their own instincts, shed their inhibitions, and build confidence and ease onstage. It also allows them to build trust among their fellow performers, commit to the given circumstance of a scene or situation, build upon their ideas, and bring freshness, adaptability, and spontaneity to their performance. These skills also apply to social, presentational, interview, and business situations. “Short-form” improv consists of short scenes usually constructed from a predetermined game, structure, or idea and driven by an audience suggestion. In this eight-week class, you’ll develop creative reflexes through a series of theatre games, impromptu scenarios, and character and team-building exercises.

In this nine-week class, you’ll build upon the skills you’ve developed through more advanced exercises and games, and culminate your creativity in working as an ensemble to prepare and perform a short-form improv performance on the final date, March 18. (Should a class experience an emergency/ weather cancellation, our performance will be moved to the next available makeup date.) Anyone who is unavailable for the showcase performance should let us know when they register.

general Information and policies

While our stages, auditoriums, and studio classroom in the main office have handicap access, our Kweskin and Dressing Room Theatre Studios unfortunately are only accessible by stairs. Please contact us directly at brian@curtaincallinc.com or (203) 329-8207 x700 if you have any questions or concerns regarding handicap accessibility for classes.

Our class sessions run once a week for eight to ten weeks. For Dance Classes, students can opt to register for the full, eight-week session at a discounted rate or register on a drop-in (or per-class) basis. Acting and Theatre Craft Classes are only available for registration for the full, eight-to-ten-week session. (There is no-drop-in registration for acting classes, regardless of age.)

All correspondence with parents and students will take place by email. Details regarding drop-off, pickup, and other class information will be sent to all parents/students at least five days in advance of the start of the class. Please be sure to check your emails on a regular basis for class updates or alerts such as cancellations due to weather or emergency. (This goes for our adult classes as well.)

We ask that all rides please be on time for dismissal, as our staff must prepare for the arrival and/or dismissal of other classes at the facility, or prepare the facility for rehearsals or performances, and may not be available to supervise. If an emergency should arise preventing you from reaching the theatre on time for dismissal, or if you do need to arrange for an early drop-off or later pickup, please contact our education director directly at brian@curtaincallinc.com or (203) 329-8207 x700. (All Curtain Call office voicemails go straight to our email as well.)

If a student needs to miss class for any reason, please let us know. Absences can sometimes cause teachers to make adjustment to what they had originally planned for that day. You may email brian@curtaincallinc.com or call (203) 329-8207 x700. There is no prorating if a student needs to miss a class. If a class is canceled for any reason and a make-up date is unable to be scheduled, that class date will be refunded.

Curtain Call follows the Stamford Public Schools calendar as to holidays and weather/emergency closings. Any class cancellations will be posted to this webpage and on News 12CT, and all parents/students will be notified. Make-up classes are only provided in the event Curtain Call must cancel a class due to weather or emergency. Make-up classes are not provided for individual student absences.

All students should bring their own water bottles to class. Water bottles should be clearly labeled with the student’s name.

No eating will be allowed in the theatres, rehearsal studios, backstage, or in the dressing rooms at any time. Food may only be eaten outdoors or in the theatre lobbies.

Students should dress comfortably and appropriately for all activities and appropriate footwear must be worn. No sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes, bare or stocking feet, Crocs, or Heelys are permitted.

Refund Policy:

• 100% if notified of withdrawal at least 10 days prior to the start of the class.
• 75% if notified less than 10 days prior to the start of the class.
• 50% if notified by the second class.
• NO refunds after the second class.

TEACHERS

Brian Bianco has been Curtain Call’s Education Director for nearly twenty years. He received his BA in Theatre from Southern Connecticut State University and is a graduate of the National Shakespeare Conservatory. He’s worked professionally in acting, directing, design, scenic artistry, and stage management. His resume includes Stamford Center for the Arts, Long Wharf Theatre, the Lamb’s Theatre, National Theatre for the Performing Arts, Bridgeport Free Shakespeare and Radio City Entertainment. He’s been directing and producing youth theatre programs, school drama programs and theatre for young audiences since 1995.

Alexandra Cahr is an actor, singer, choreographer and performing arts instructor. Past experiences include teaching various styles of dance and movement at Star Dance Academy (Stamford Rec), choreographer for children’s theater with BCHA’s musical program, Camp Gan Israel of Westport, Westmorland Sanctuary, and the Stamford JCC. Alex has had the pleasure of being a part of the Curtain Call community ever since she herself was a young child. She’s learned many things here, the biggest being that there are no small roles. She’s spent years of her life focusing on acting, especially when there are no words involved. Our faces and body language can tell an entire story. her goal is to explore acting through movement, sound and creativity.

Jonathan Cahr  has three decades of experience in choral arranging for concerts, musicals and his own recordings. His career as an actor and singer spans Broadway, television, national tours and radio. He’s a song writer/lead vocalist for The What’s Up Band and parody band, The Shlamones whose original songs have been performed at Madison Square Garden, Citifield and Times Square. Jonathan teaches for Curtain Call during the year, and has taught music, theatre and video at Bi-Cultural Day School, B’nei Israel, Rodeph Shalom, Shir Ami, and currently teaches music at the Spire School in Connecticut.

Katie Carriero  is a former ESL teacher and has been teaching children's theatre for over 15 years, most recently at the Westchester School of Speech and Drama. She is a local director, actor, and stage manager. Most recently, you can see her act, produce, and direct in her traveling improv troupe, Cluedunnit?!?, performing around Fairfield County.

Virginia (Vicky) Herrera-Crilly “If you can speak, you can sing!” A vocal artist and teacher in Stamford, CT, she began her vocal training in the country of her birth – México – going on to study in Rome, NYC, and at OMTI with the legendary Jerome Hines. She has taught vocal technique to students at all levels for over 25 years in adult and elementary music education. Since 2008, she has judged student and professional singers in the classical and musical theater divisions of the annual Classical Singer Music Vocal Competition. While living in the Bronx, Virginia served as director of the vocal department for Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts. She went on to work as a music educator in Stamford, CT with the City’s Catholic Schools, the Recreational Services Department, and at Long Ridge Music Center. Currently she teaches at SMMA (Stamford Music & Arts Academy). All the while Virginia continues instructing private students. As a performer, Virginia has been acclaimed by Opera News as having an “uncommonly beautiful sound,” with “tonal beauty and liquid phrasing,” She has performed in operas, zarzuelas, and concerts around the world in venues such as Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Merkin Hall, Town Hall, and PNC Arts Center. She is proud to have worked with some of the world’s great conductors including Pablo Zinger, Anton Coppola, Jorge Parodi, Borislav Ivanov, Enrique Patrón de Rueda, and Per Brevig. Virginia has been recognized for her work in Besame Mucho, including winning the ACE 2014 Award for Best Musical Production in the Latin Theater in NYC and the HOLA 2013 Award for Excellence in Theater. Her voice is featured in the soundtrack of the Mexican short film “Under the Rubble” nominated for Best Short Film at the Tribeca Film Festival 2006 and for Best Original Music at the Pantalla de Cristal Festival 2006 in México. Virginia made her debut at Curtain Call as Sister Margarita in Sister Act, and has been a backstage member in many of Curtain Call’s productions. Among these many activities, Virginia places singing as a cantor for weekly Masses, funerals and wedding services at the top of her list. She believes strongly in sharing one’s gifts whether it’s at your local church, in the studio, or on a professional stage.

Ruth Lettera is thrilled to be a part Curtain Call’s teaching staff for nearly twenty years! In the past, she has served as both the Director/Music Director of many children’s theatre productions, including: Schoolhouse Rock, A Storybook Christmas, The X-Mas Files, Christmas on Angel Street, Winnie the Pooh and Disney’s Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. She also served as the Vocal Music Director for productions of: Chess, The Sound of Music and The Music Man, as well as The Music Man, Jr. As a performer she has appeared in New Jersey, Indiana, New York and Connecticut. Not too long ago, she had the honor of being one of four theater-educators, chosen from across the nation, to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime week-long Broadway Workshop and Performance at the Circle in the Square Theatre in NYC. Ruth recently retired as a teacher in the Darien Public School system where she taught music for Holmes, Tokeneke and Ox Ridge Elementary Schools.

Jenny Maso is a highly skilled and passionate musical theatre teacher with over two decades of experience in the industry. A graduate of Mannes Conservatory of the Arts and the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, her expertise in musical theatre and classical voice paired with her love for teaching makes her an exceptional mentor for aspiring performers. With a focus on technique and expression, Jenny guides her students through vocal exercises and performance techniques that enhance their skills and confidence on stage. Beyond vocal training, Jenny believes in the power of creative play and personal growth. She fosters a supportive and nurturing environment where students can explore their creativity, develop their acting skills, and build their confidence. Those who have the privilege of learning from her leave her classes not only with improved musical abilities but also with a newfound appreciation for performing and a sense of self-assurance.

Justin McArthur  has been performing at Curtain Call since 2014, where he started as a member of the Summer Youth Theatre program, and has been seen in multiple Curtain Call productions including Beautiful, Assassins, The Tempest, The Wizard of Oz and Fiddler on the Roof. He is proud to be part of the Curtain Call teaching staff. Justin has studied opera and ballroom dancing, and has taught music to and directed children for the past year, including Frozen Jr. at Dolan Middle School.

Christopher John O’Neill is thrilled to be a part Curtain Call’s teaching staff this fall! He is a Stamford native, a Curtain Call alum, an international award-winning sketch comedy writer and performer from “The Chris and Paul Show” (along with partner Paul Valenti) with accolades from the Montreal Comedy Award for Best Sketch Group, recognition as an Edinburgh Fringe Festival Best Newcomer Nominee, and the pair’s 2019 appearance on the NBC comedy competition television series Bring the Funny, making it to the finals of the show's first season. Chris has also appeared on Broadway and is a Helen Hayes Award Winner for his role as Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon.

Josh Elliott Pickel is thrilled to be part of the Curtain Call Community. He has shared the stage in recent Curtain Call performances of King Lear, Fiddler on the Roof (Motel)   The Wizard of Oz (Hunk/Scarecrow), A Murder is Announced (Edmund Swettenham), and The Tempest (Adrian). Josh started his acting career at nine years old, has been cast in roles for film, television, and theatre, and has had the privilege to work alongside renowned actors such as Bill Murray, Jamie Foxx, Noah Schnapp, Arian Moayed, and Mark Margolis. As an actor, director, and writer, Josh has also won awards for his acting, filmmaking, and screenwriting. Josh has attended Stella Adler Studio of Acting and The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. Currently, he is pursuing a BFA at The University of Connecticut.

Joseph Riedel is a writer, director, and educator located and operating out of the NYC, Westchester, and Fairfield county areas. He holds a Masters in Theater Instruction from Temple University. With extensive work as an improv comedian, Joseph’s sensibilities as a writer come from a sense of play. The darker and more interesting a concept is to explore, the more he wants to have fun with it and delve into its meaning. His primary focus is empowering his audience and his learners to find their voice and use art to express the ideas that are most important to them. His newest play, It’s Hell Out There, premiered November 2022. Joseph is a professor at Westchester Community College, has taught at Croton Academy of Arts, and currently teaches at The Windward School.

Caitlin Ann Roberts is a local choreographer, performer and dance educator from Norwalk, CT. She began dance at the age of three and continued her studies at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA, where she received a degree in Dance with a concentration on choreography. Since then, Caitlin has choreographed multiple musicals for some of the local high schools and theatre companies throughout the Fairfield County area, and most recently won a Sondheim Award for her choreography of The Prom  at Stamford High School. She has also performed with local dance companies including Connecticut Ballet, Velocity and Tapperlesque. For the past several years, Caitlin has had the pleasure of being a part of the Curtain Call Family. She has not only enjoyed performing here (42^nd Street, Mary Poppins, Gypsy, and Spamalot), but has also had the pleasure of being one of Curtain Call’s resident choreographers (Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, Annie, and A Christmas Story).Caitlin’s other credits include dancing and acting in music videos, flash mobs, film and television. She has also performed in productions of Brigadoon, Chicago, Sweet Charity, Seussical and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Jennifer Silverman is no stranger to Curtain Call having performed in multiple productions (most recently White Christmas, Tootsie, and The Sound of Music) and choreographed many more (such as The Drowsy Chaperone, The Addams Family, and Disney's Beauty and the Beast for our Summer Youth Theatre). She has performed as a singer and dancer on Celebrity Cruise Lines and at Woodloch Pines Resort, and was the Songstress in Cirque Dreams. She's taught at various dance studios around Westchester County, and trained at The University of MIami, NYU Tisch, and The Juilliard School.

Paul Valenti  is a seasoned performer, writer and improviser in New York City, and has had the opportunity to perform throughout the US and in the UK. He is a Stamford native, a Curtain Call alum, an international award-winning sketch comedy writer and performer from “The Chris and Paul Show” (along with partner Chris O'Neill) with accolades from the Montreal Comedy Award for Best Sketch Group, recognition as an Edinburgh Fringe Festival Best Newcomer Nominee, and the pair’s 2019 appearance on the NBC comedy competition television series Bring the Funny, making it to the finals of the show's first season. Paul also has directed numerous short plays and sketches and is an Improv coach as well. Winner of Best Actor at the NYTV Festival for the pilot of The Chris and Paul Show and Best Newcomer at The Montreal Sketch Festival. Nominated for Best Newcomer at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and proud alumnus of Second City NYC.

Justin Villard has worked as a Summer Stock Teaching Assistant for past four years, became Program Coordinator in 2025, has been a member the Curtain Call Summer Youth Theatre Board, and has interned at Curtain Call. He recently graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a BFA in Theatre Arts: Acting. He currently works as a substitute teacher in the Stamford District. He’s excited to work with all the old and new faces.
