TV and Film Acting for Teens, Grades 9 to 12November 7, 2022 – TV and Film Acting for Teens, Grades 9 to 12Registration now closed. Acting for the camera comes closer to reality than acting on stage, and requires its own unique set of skills. In this eight-week workshop, you’ll build the basic skills necessary to act and audition for television, film and commercials using actual network and film scripts, and working under a former NYC casting director and acting coach. Explore how body and facial gestures convey important information to a viewing audience and how the camera lens can become your best friend. You’ll also receive tips for finding agents and booking professional work. This low-pressure class environment allows students to explore a variety pack of acting tools and techniques for budding young talents including improv, character creation, scripted scenes/sketches, monologues, and commercials, without the pressure of rehearsing and preparation associated with putting on a show. Build confidence, presentation, social and public speaking skills. Highlights of the students’ work have often been presented in a showcase for an invited audience at the end of the session if the class is comfortable. These skills also apply to social, presentational, interview, and business situations. Tween Scene Study, Grades 6 to 8November 10, 2022 – Tween Scene Study, Grades 6 to 8(This class is no longer available for registration.) Instructor: Brian Bianco Thursdays, 4:00pm to 5:25pm 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10 Playwrights provide clues in their scripts for actors that provide them with an outline of who their character is, what their relationship is with other characters on stage, what their goal (or objective) may be, how urgent is that goal or objective, and what may stand in their way (their obstacle). Learn how to find these clues and make character-driven choices that lead you to a more truthful performance. Learn also how to be an active listener and pass the ball to your scene partner and feed off each other’s energy while still staying “in the moment.” Students will work with age-appropriate scripts and are welcome and encouraged to bring in any monologues or scenes from home they may wish to work on.
