LOL: Comedy and Improv for Tweens, Grades 6 to 8November 2, 2022 – LOL: Comedy and Improv for Tweens, Grades 6 to 8Registration now closed. Instructor: Tony Republicano Wednesdays, 5:20pm to 6:50pm 9/21, 9/28, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16 (*No class 10/5 in observance of Yom Kippur.) If you’ve got a talent and a love for making people laugh, this eight-week workshop is for you! Humor speaks to all personalities and is an effective way of channeling creativity to make poignant and relevant commentary. Explore a variety of comedic styles including improv, sketch, physical comedy, parody and stand-up. Sharpen your timing, heighten your creative instincts, develop your own comedic characters and ideas, while you also build trust in your scene partners, learn to listen and “pass the ball,” commit to the given circumstances in a scene, and bring freshness and spontaneity to your acting performance. Tween Scene Study, Grades 6 to 8November 3, 2022 – Tween Scene Study, Grades 6 to 8(This class is no longer available for registration.) Instructor: Brian Bianco Thursdays, 4:00pm to 5:25pm 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10 Playwrights provide clues in their scripts for actors that provide them with an outline of who their character is, what their relationship is with other characters on stage, what their goal (or objective) may be, how urgent is that goal or objective, and what may stand in their way (their obstacle). Learn how to find these clues and make character-driven choices that lead you to a more truthful performance. Learn also how to be an active listener and pass the ball to your scene partner and feed off each other’s energy while still staying “in the moment.” Students will work with age-appropriate scripts and are welcome and encouraged to bring in any monologues or scenes from home they may wish to work on.
