Information on our teacher’s backgrounds and credentials is now available within our class descriptions, but you can also view them in Sidebar to the right if you are on your computer, laptop or tablet, or scroll all the way down if you are on your phone. Teachers are listed alphabetically by last name.
All correspondence with parents and students will take place by email. Details regarding drop-off, pick-up, and other class information will be sent to all parents/students at least five days in advance of the start of the class. Please be sure to check your emails on a regular basis for class updates or alerts such as cancellations due to weather or emergency. (This goes for our Adult Classes as well.)
Parents, guardians and sitters may drop off students at the lobby of the theatre buildings but will not be permitted inside any of the theatre spaces or studio classrooms during the class time, but are permitted to wait in the theatre lobby. (For young students who may be shy or apprehensive about attending class, we recommend a thorough conversation take place about the class ahead of time. Please contact our Education Director with any questions or to discuss class expectations with students in further detail or even provide a tour of the facility in advance, if needed.)
We ask that all rides please be on time for dismissal, as our staff must prepare for the arrival and/or dismissal of other classes at the facility, or prepare the facility for rehearsals or performances, and may not be available to supervise. If an emergency should arise preventing you from reaching the theatre on time for dismissal, or if you do need to arrange for an early drop-off or later pick-up, please contact our Education Director directly at brian@curtaincallinc.com or 203-329-8207 x700. Curtain Call follows the Stamford Public School Calendar as to holidays and weather/emergency closings. Any class cancellations will be posted to the this webpage and on News 12CT, and all parents/students will be notified. Make-up classes are only provided in the event Curtain Call must cancel a class due to weather or emergency. Make-up classes are not provided for individual student absences.
All students should bring their own water bottles to class. Water bottles should be clearly labeled with the student’s name.
NO EATING will be allowed in the theatres, rehearsal studios, backstage or in the dressing rooms at any time. Food may only be eaten outdoors or in the theatre lobbies.
Students should dress comfortably and appropriately for all activities, and must wear the appropriate footwear: NO sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes, bare of stocking feet, Crocs or Heelys permitted.

As of August 19, 2022, proof of vaccination is NO LONGER REQUIRED for students of all ages. As of March 7, 2022 masks have no longer been required for students of all ages. However, students do have the option of still wearing a mask if they so choose.

This drama class is for young actors who may not enjoy musicals as much but love to act. Over the eight weeks, the class will creatively collaborate to develop and rehearse an adaptation from a children’s fiction or non-fiction story that teaches a moral or educational lesson. This performance will be recorded for families on the final class. While our stage adaptation will incorporate music, it will be more for the purpose of adding movement and physicality, and setting dramatic tone. Students will build confidence and social interaction skills as they work as a creative team. All students must be available for the recording of their performance on the final date. Class materials and our recorded performance will be provided through a Google Classroom.

Acting for the camera more closely reflects the way we perceive things in reality than acting on the stage, and requires its own unique set of skills. Explore how the camera lens can become your best friend. In this eight-week workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills needed to act and audition for television, film and commercials as well as how to set up your own camera and record your own audition submissions at home. Classroom footage will be made available to students so they may observe their progress and see how they read on-camera. (For reasons based around COVID-19, we will focus on monologues and shooting any scenes as individual shots so as to maintain safe protocols and social distancing.) You’ll also receive tips for how to find the right agent or manager and book professional work. Class materials and recordings of student work will be posted through a Google Classroom.

How does an actor approach a scene and how do they recreate, process and control emotion? How do proper breath support, body language, and physicalization of both character and intention play a role in the success of an actor’s performance? How does an actor learn to “fade and focus”: the art of knowing when it’s time to become the focus of the scene and when to fade into the role of the active listener? How do they discover, process and respond to what is in the scene around them, and how do they convey their objectives and obstacles to the audience? What warm-up exercises are best for an actor to prepare their body, voice and mental focus before beginning an audition, rehearsal or performance? In this eight-week workshop you’ll layer specific technical skills upon your already existing skills to begin creating and tailoring your own personal style as an actor. Using ambiguous dialogue, monologues, and improvisation, you’ll develop techniques that push you to greater heights, build confidence, and become a stronger scene partner and a better-rounded performer.

Different than on-stage acting, acting on screen is very intimate and more closely reflects the way we perceive things in reality. The camera picks up every detail. Learn how to feel comfortable and confident on-camera, how to best present yourself on screen, and explore commercials and scenes for TV and film, as well as how to do cold-readings for on-camera auditions. Acting for the camera more closely reflects the way we perceive things in reality than acting on the stage, and requires its own unique set of skills. Explore how the camera lens can become your best friend. In this eight-week workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills needed to act and audition for television, film and commercials as well as how to set up your own camera and record your own audition submissions at home. Classroom footage will be made available to students so they may observe their progress and see how they read on-camera. (For reasons based around COVID-19, we will focus on monologues and shooting any scenes as individual shots so as to maintain safe protocols and social distancing.) How do proper breath support, body language, and physicalization of both character and intention play a role in the success of an actor’s performance? How does an actor learn to “fade and focus”: the art of knowing when it’s time to become the focus of the scene and when to fade into the role of the active listener? How do they discover, process and respond to what is in the scene around them, and how do they convey their objectives and obstacles to the audience? What warm-up exercises are best for an actor to prepare their body, voice and mental focus before beginning an audition, rehearsal or performance? This drama class is for young actors who may not enjoy musicals as much but love to act. Over the eight weeks, the class will creatively collaborate to develop and rehearse an adaptation from a children’s fiction or non-fiction story that teaches a moral or educational lesson. This performance will be recorded for families on the final class. While our stage adaptation will incorporate music, it will be more for the purpose of adding movement and physicality, and setting dramatic tone. Students will build confidence and social interaction skills as they work as a creative team. All students must be available for the recording of their performance on the final date. Using song, character expression and choreographed movements and gestures as storytelling tools, students will assemble a mini-musical based upon a story or fable that they will perform for families on the final class. (A new mini-musical is explored each session for recurring students.) Students will be cast in various roles and provided with a script and recorded music tracks. The class will also include special craft projects which will be incorporated into their performance. All students must be available for their performance on the final date (March 14 – pending any snow days).

Young actors will build comfort and confidence in learning to use their bodies as acting tools. Acting requires more than words. Actors use their bodies and facial expressions to inform the audience of what kind of personality they are, and what they are feeling and thinking. Just simply how a character stands or how they walk can tell us an awful lot about them. (A giant would move very differently than a mouse, for example.) In this class, students will use music and movement exercises to get in tune with their bodies creatively, and explore how body language, posture, gesture and facial expression can be used as effectively as a costume in order to create a character. They will also use masks and work with props.

Acting on-camera is very different than acting onstage. On stage, actors must be “larger than life” so they can be seen and heard all the way from the back of the theatre or in the balcony. Acting for the camera comes closer to reality than acting on stage, and is more intimate. The camera can zoom in as closely or intently as needed, and hones in on what exactly the audience should see. Learn how to best present yourself on-camera and explore auditions, commercials, scenes for TV and film using actual, network and professional scripts. Writing the sort of content you see from Saturday Night Live or Key and Peele is about more than simply doing something funny for the sake of being funny. Solid writing always comes from forming a strong central idea, then utilizing humor to explain your idea to the audience. The same applies to dramatic forms of writing: each scene of a play must center around a strong idea around which all dialogue and character choices are built. In this class, learners will identify themes that they are passionate about, format a strong thesis about those themes, then evolve those thesis statements into an original piece of writing where their unique creative voices shine. By the end of this class, you will not only present hilarious content to your audience, but you will identify who you are as a storyteller and deliver comedy that speaks to your audience in the unique way of which only you are capable.

In this class, we will explore the actors job from the moment the script is in your hand. Learning how to recognize beats (thought transitions) that the playwright has written, to character development, this class will explore the relationship between the actor and the playwright. The class will work cohesively as an ensemble working on scenes, monologues and even song interpretation, (you don’t have to be singer) with special guest directors and accompanists.

Improv is unscripted, allowing artists to draw from their own instincts, shed their inhibitions, and build confidence and ease onstage. It also allows them to build trust among their fellow performers, commit to the given circumstance of a scene or situation, build upon their ideas, and bring freshness, adaptability and spontaneity in their performance. These skills also apply to social, presentational, interview, and business situations. In this eight-week class, you’ll develop creative reflexes through a series of theatre games, impromptu scenarios, and character and team-building exercises.
