Theatre Arts Classes for Ages 5-7:

 

(NEW CLASS) Magic in the Movement: an Introduction to Stage Movement and Dance (ages 5-7)

Instructor: Savannah Belle Miller

Mondays, 4:30pm to 5:45pm

*No class 10/8 due to Columbus Day and 11/12 due to Veteran’s Day.

This class helps young actors get in tune with their bodies and explore storytelling and expression through movement. Students will examine body language, observing how posture, gesture and facial expressions demonstrate character, attitude, intensity and emotion. They’ll learn basic dance and movement skills, strengthen their sense of balance and build confidence in using their bodies. Staged pieces will be choreographed and presented for an invited audience on the final class date, November 26, 2018.

Music Box Theatre: An Introduction to Musical Theatre (ages 5-7) This class is SOLD OUT!

Using song and movement as storytelling tools, students learn the basics of musical theatre performance as they prepare and perform a mini-musical for an invited audience on the final class! As an ensemble, they will learn stage direction, vocalization exercises and most importantly, how music can help to move or drive a story. All students must be available for the showcase performance on the final date, which is November 20, 2018.

Enchanted Entertainers (ages 5-7)

Thursdays, 4:30pm to 5:45pm

In this drama class, students will be introduced to a genre of children’s literature such as; fractured fairy tales, Aesop’s fables, fiction and non-fiction stories that will be use to teach educational lessons. Together with their instructor, they will develop their own stage adaptation of these tales that will include acting, movement and music! At the end of this course the students will present this performance for an invited audience. This acting class promises to be fun, exciting and memorable. Students will leave this class with a better understanding of basic performance skills. All students must be available for the showcase performance on the final date, which is November 15, 2018.

Budding Actor’s Workshop (ages 5-7)

A variety pack of acting tools and techniques for budding, young talents including improv, scripted  sketches, on-camera scenes and commercials! Build confidence, presentation, social and public speaking skills. This is a no-pressure environment for building skills and confidence: a performance showcase on our final date, November 17, 2018, is optional. Students should not feel pressure to perform a showcase, but may if they decide.

Broadway Melodies (ages 8-10):

 

Instructors: Jonathan Cahr and Ruth Lettera

Mondays, 4:30pm to 5:45pm

A “triple threat” on Broadway is a performer who can sing, act and move well: music, movement and motivation work together in any musical number to tell the story. Harness these elements and build strong vocal and performance skills as we examine the best of Broadway! Students will learn how to not only sing a musical number, but explore musical staging, stage directions, how to act a song and most importantly how to blend and work together creatively as an ensemble. Acting games and exercises will also be incorporated into the curriculum. The session will culminate in an informal showcase on the final date.  All students must be available for this showcase, which is November 26, 2018.

Laughter is something we can all share and enjoy! In this eight-week workshop, young actors will learn how to tap into their own creative ideas and instincts as they explore improv, sketches, physical comedy, parody and joke-telling! They’ll also build confidence and teamwork skills as they learn to trust in themselves and their fellow actors. A performance showcase on our final date is optional. As this is primarily a skill-building class, students should not feel pressure to perform, but can if the class so decides.

Learn how to best present yourself on-camera and explore auditions, commercials, scenes for TV and film using actual, network and professional scripts. You’ll also pick up useful tips on how to book professional work and industry tricks of the trade!

Sharpen your timing, heighten your instincts, develop your own comedic characters and ideas as you explore improv, sketch, physical comedy, parody and stand-up. Broadway Bound (ages 11-13)

This intensive study in musical performance will offer students opportunities for solo work, duets, trios and other small-group features. They’ll explore selections from some of Broadway and Off-Broadway’s best to find two new audition songs (an up-tempo and ballad) to add to their audition repertoire. The class will culminate in a very informal showcase on the final date, which is November 15, 2018.

Improv is unscripted, allowing artists to draw from their own instincts, shed inhibitions, build personal ease and confidence onstage, and develop trust among fellow performers. These skills also apply to social, business, interview/audition and presentation situations. Strengthen your creative reflexes in this eight-week workshop through a series of theatre games, impromptu scenarios, and character and team-building exercises.

Between the Lines: Scene Study for Adults (ages 16 and up)

Instructor: Carole Claps

Thursdays, 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Anyone can memorize lines, but an actor has to bring the character to life through “truth.” Learn how to find clues in the text that relate to who your character is as a person, his or her objectives and obstacles, and make character-driven choices that lead you to a more truthful performance.
