Register for BOTH our Creative and Musical Theatre Sessions for Grades 6 to 12, or BOTH Sessions of Summerstock Junior for Grades K to 5, and save $200 (discount expires after the start date of the 1st session of the package)!
Curtain Call’s Summerstock and Summerstock Junior are full-day, conservatory-style workshop programs in dramatic and musical theatre arts. Students hone creative, collaborative and social skills as well as performance skills. Each session runs two weeks and accommodates a maximum of 40 students. Those students are then placed in age-appropriate groups (according to what grade they are entering in the fall) for a rotating schedule of study in a variety of performance subjects under a team of specialized instructors. For example:
Monday |
Group A |
Group B |
Group C |
Class 1 |
Voice |
Acting |
Dance |
Class 2 |
Dance |
Voice |
Acting |
Class 3 |
Acting |

Voice |
(See the session descriptions below for what specific areas of study each session explores).
All skill levels are welcome. No experience is required. Class work is highlighted in a student showcase at the end of each session. (Which means, we do NOT put on a full production. Instead, our showcases consist of scenes, vignettes, and musical numbers that students have been developing in their classes. This allows for flexibility in content, and balance of stage time for our students.) Each day begins with full-group warm-ups, theatre games, and exercises. A lunch and snack break will be part of the daily schedule. Lunch will normally take place on the playground and picnic area of the Sterling Farms property, weather permitting, or in our Dressing Room Theatre where tables are available for seating. Students should bring their own lunch and snacks in a bag or lunch box, as well as a water bottle, clearly labeled with their name. Please avoid packing any nut-related items as a number of students (and sometimes staff) often suffer from nut-related allergies.
ALL CORRESPONDENCE WITH PARENTS WILL TAKE PLACE BY EMAIL. Once you have registered, you will receive an automated confirmation from our online system. Further information and any necessary forms (waivers, photo releases and emergency/medical forms) will be sent via email at least two weeks prior to the start of the session (if not sooner). If you do have questions in the meantime, please contact Education Director Brian Bianco at brian@curtaincallinc.com or 203-329-8207 (x700).
Sibling Discounts and Payment Plan Options are available. Scholarships are available for students in need. Details on how to apply as well as information on our staff’s backgrounds can be found in the sidebar to the right if you are on your computer or tablet (or to the bottom if you are on your phone).
Drop-offs are no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the program start, and pick up is no later than 30 minutes after the program ends. Because we are a fully-operational theatre company and not a “summer camp,” our staff has multiple duties and tasks to attend to regarding preparation and safety for our program prior to the day’s start as well as at the end of the day, preparing for evening activities, and are not available to supervise students for extended hours.
While our stages, lobbies, restrooms, dressing rooms, and our studio in our Main Office all have handicap access, the studios and dressing rooms on the upper level of the Kweskin and Dressing Room Theatres have stairs only – no elevators.
For more information, email brian@curtaincallinc.com or call 203-329-8207 (x700).

How does an actor recreate, process and control emotion? How do proper breath support, body language, and physicalization of both character and intention play a role in the success of an actor’s performance? How does an actor learn the art of knowing when it’s time to become the focus of the scene and when to fade into the role of the active listener? How do they discover, process and respond to what is in the scene around them, and how do they convey their objectives and obstacles to the audience? What warm-up exercises are best for an actor to prepare their body, voice and mental focus before beginning an audition, rehearsal or performance? In this eight-week workshop you’ll layer specific technical skills upon your already existing skills to begin creating and tailoring your own personal style as an actor. Using ambiguous dialogue, monologues, and improvisation, you’ll develop techniques that push you to greater heights, build confidence, and become a stronger scene partner and a better-rounded performer. Students of this class will also work in conjunction with our Teen Directing class, applying the techniques they learn to scene work directed by our Teen Directing students.

So often when dealing with musical theater, we focus on vocal chops. While important, it’s easy to forget there’s a character behind that sound. In this class, we aim to focus on more text driven musical theater pieces to help transform the musician into the actor as well - giving you the extra tools in your tool box to make yourself a triple threat, while also being able to enhance your singing technique. Students will receive instruction on how to develop a musical theater moment from a text perspective, navigate its acting beats, and connect it with their music foundations.

Do you have the skills and motivation to become a working actor but are not quite landing the roles or acting jobs you’re hoping for? This class is a focused study in not only how to better prepare for a variety of auditions (plays, musicals and TV and film), but how to market, promote and manage yourself as an actor, and target the kind of work you’re looking for. On top of building and preparing a repertoire of audition pieces (be it monologues, ballads and up-tempo musical selections or TV and film), students will explore the kinds of details that will help get their headshots, resumes and submissions noticed and get them through the door. They’ll also be informed on how to work with agents, managers and casting directors.
