Curtain Call Winter 2012 Workshops
Information and registration for our eight-week winter classes after school, evening and weekends can be found below. Just scroll down. Classes are listed according to age range (from age five through adult).
Registration is also now open for our WINTERSTOCK full-day, winter vacation program for ages six to sixteen, February 20 to 23, 2012.
All workshops take place in a safe and nurturing environment here at the Sterling Farms Theatre Complex. Classes meet once a week for eight weeks. Registration is $250 for the eight-week session.
Curtain Call follows the Stamford Public Schools calendar as to vacation, holiday and weather-related closings. For emergency or weather-related closing information, watch our website, News Channel 12 or tune in to 1400 WSTC.
Refund policy:
100% refund if notified of withdrawal up to 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.
75% refund if notified of withdrawal less than 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.
50% refund if notified of withdrawal prior to the 2nd class date.
NO refunds beyond the 2nd class date. |

Use your voice and basic instruments as story-telling tools, developing a showcase for an invited audience during the final class. Natasha Fenster received her BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon and teaches with Music Together in Fairfield. She has performed with several local theatre companies.

| Storybook Stages: an Introduction to Acting and Storytelling (Ages 5 to 7) |

Bring fairy tales and fables to life! Students challenge their imaginations as they create a storybook performance for an invited audience! Donnie Moody is a Dramatic Arts Teacher at Westover Magnet school and has been teaching and directing children for over 20 years, creating his own storybook stage adaptations.

| On the Spot: Improv for Kids (Ages 5 to 7) |

Improv is unscripted theatre. Actors create characters and scenarios on the spot using imagination and creative instincts. Through theatre games and unscripted exercises students will build confidence, social skills and learn to work as a team. Flex your performance muscels as you explore character and story-telling exercises to create a mini-play for an invited audience! Students must have taken a beginning actor's workshop (either with Curtain Call, another local theatre group or at school) or have had performance experience (i.e. a school play or local theatre production). Never been on stage but are drawn to the spotlight? This class is for students just beginning to explore the craft of acting. Learn how actors create characters and emotions, and how they prepare for performance and auditions. Build confidence and creative instincts through improv, theatre games, character exercises and skits. Explore some of Broadway's best-known musicals, combining voice, movement and acting to create a showcase for an invited audience during the final class. Jonathan Cahr has almost two decades of experience in choral arranging for concerts, musicals and his own recordings. His career as an actor and singer spans Broadway, television and national tours. Ruth Lettera is a music and choral instructor whose performance credits span New Jersey, Indiana, Connecticut and Broadway.

An actor is a skilled craftsman, and a craftsman needs the proper tools for any situation. This workshop will help assemble a "tool box" that will aid in auditions, rehearsals and performances. Techniques will be explored in areas such as improv, scene and monologue study, on-camera, auditions, musical theatre and stage combat. A new artist, specializing in each "tool," will work work with the group every two weeks to provide a fully-equipped "tool box" for young actors.

Center your mind and movement as you connect to characters and text. Explore character objectives, situations, scene-structure and rhythm. Peter Barbieri, Jr. is Curtain Call's Associate Artistic Director and founding director of our Shakespeare on the Green. He is a graduate of Allegheny College and the National Shakespeare Conservatory and has directed numerous productions as well as having behind-the-scenes credits on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally and national and international tours.

| Take One: Acting On-Camera (Adults) |

Explore the craft of acting for TV, film and commercials. You'll learn valuable skills for preparing for on-camera shoots and auditions as well as gain precious knowledge about the industry. No previous on-camera experience is required. Tod Engle is a working actor of film and TV who has appeared in numerous films such as Love the Hard way, Love in the Age of Dion, It Had to Be You and Rachel, Rachel as well as TV appearances on Law and Order: SVU, The Sopranos and Hope and Faith. | Winterstock 2012: Full, four-day program |

WINTERSTOCK 2012
is a full-day performing arts curriculum for ages 6 to 16, which will take place at our Sterling Farms Theatre Complex February 20 to 23, when most area public schools experience Winter Break. In age-appropriate groups, students will rotate between instructors specialized in the day’s theme. Each day will run from 9:30am to 4:00pm and conclude in a “showcase period” where students have the opportunity to put what they’ve learned to practice (parents and guests are welcome). Students may register for individual days or register for all four days and save $100! Our Winterstock themes for 2012 are:

Musical Monday, February 20
What makes Musical Theatre so unique and so popular is that it combines three main elements of performance inherent in every culture: music, acting and movement. Each element adds a new level of creative and emotional expression to storytelling. In this program, students will learn how to become a well-rounded performer through intensive focus in all three of these elements.

To Be or Not to Be Tuesday, February 21
William Shakespeare is one of the most challenging and widely studied masters of the theatre. From his use of language, his poetic structure and some of the most unforgettable characters in the world, he has left an indelible mark on nearly every culture. This intensive day of classes, focused on this master’s works, will explore vocal and acting techniques, scene study, movement, characterization and even stage combat!

Comedy is challenging. It involves instinct, timing, confidence and trust. In a comfortable and creative environment, students will build instincts and confidence through improv, sharpen timing and stage presence through physical comedy, and fortify a sense of teamwork and trust through sketch comedy. Together, they will create memorable characters and scenarios and share some laughs!

Thoroughly Modern Thursday, February 23
Modern Acting centers around a philosophy that every character is driven by an objective both immediate and personal. It uses techniques in creating a performance that is more truthful and natural. Students will explore some of these techniques for stage and screen performance, applying them to scenes and monologues from some of the writers of modern stage and screen.
