Curtain Call's performance classes and workshops are focused in building not only performance skills, but confidence, social skills, presentation skills, creative instincts, teamwork and leadership qualities. We cater to all skill levels whether the raw-beginner or experienced professional and offer a low-pressure environment where students are able to explore and develop creative techniques applicable to any performance situation. Classes range from six to fifteen students and run once a week for eight-week sessions fall, winter and spring. Winter and summer vacation programs are also available.

 

Scholarships are available for families in need. To apply, simply submit a copy of your most recent tax return, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, instructor, mentor or coach who has worked with your child, and a letter from you and/or your child stating why our workshop program may be beneficial to him/her. These items can be submitted to our Education Director Brian J. Bianco by email at brian@curtaincallinc.com, or by fax at 203-322-3656. Refund policy:

100% refund if notified of withdrawal up to 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.

75% refund if notified of withdrawal less than 7 days prior to the starting date of the class.

50% refund if notified of withdrawal prior to the 2nd class date.

NO refunds beyond the 2nd class date.

Music Box Theatre: An Introduction to Musical Theatre (ages 5-7)

Using song and dance as storytelling tools, students will create and perform a small musical for an invited audience at the end of the semester.  Natasha Fenster received her BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon. This mother of two also teaches with Music Together in Stamford and Rowayton. She’s performed on the Kweskin Stage in The Wizard of Oz, Legally Blonde, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor DreamcoatNunsense and others, as well as with several other local companies.

Tony Republicano has been an onsite and outreach instructor here at Curtain Call since the beginning and is proud to be on the Connecticut Office of the Arts Teaching Artist Roster. He brings a variety of theatre programs to schools and community settings throughout the tri-state area, is on the teaching staff at Yale medical school's Standardized Patient Program and performs social-issue theatre with the mobile Interactive Educational Theatre. He is a member of SAG-AFTRA whose Film credits include The Amazing Spider Man 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Annie. Tony also appears on TV and local stages.

A graduate of Western CT State University, Shannon holds a BA in Communications, Theatre Arts and Vocal Performance, a MA in Education, and has been trained in voice, acting, tap, jazz and musical theatre dance. She’s also performed on several community and professional stages, and has appeared in episodes of Law and Order: SVU, The Jury, ED and The Sopranos.

Musical Theatre performers sing, act and move well: music, movement and motivation work together to tell the story. Harness these elements and build strong performance skills as we examine the best of Broadway! Jonathan Cahr has almost two decades of experience in choral arranging for concerts, musicals and his own recordings. His career as an actor and singer spans Broadway, television and national tours. Ruth Lettera is a music and choral instructor whose performance credits span New Jersey, Indiana and Connecticut and who’s participated in several Broadway workshops.

Exploring all forms of jazz dance: theatre jazz, classical, lyrical and contemporary. Develop technique, comprehension of dance terms and vocabulary, as well as story-telling through movement. Emily holds a B.F.A in Dance from Emerson College.  Professional performing credits include Godspell, Grease, Evita, and Pippin and the National Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar where she was a swing and the Assistant Dance Captain. Her choreography’s been produced throughout Boston, NYC, Fairfield and Westchester Counties, as well as Curtain Call, Darien High School, Westhill High School and Sacred Heart University. In 1999, she founded The Reach Dance Project. She has been teaching dance to children 18 months through teens for the past 15 years.

Working in front of a camera is closer to reality than stage acting and requires its own, unique set of skills. In this eight-week workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills necessary for acting and auditioning for television, film and commercials using actual network and film scripts. Explore how body and facial gestures convey important information to a viewing audience and how, without a live audience, the camera lens can become your best friend. You’ll also receive tips for finding agents and booking professional work. Lisa Lelas is a popular CT acting coach and former NY casting director. She’s helped train thousands of actors who’ve attained professional work in TV, film and Broadway. Lisa is a motivational speaker, a performance coach for the Sacred Heart University’s Women’s Skate Team, the film-acting instructor for the annual Moondance International Film Festivals and the founding owner/director of the state’s first TV-acting studio. She’s a well-known author, newspaper/magazine columnist and was the organizing segment host for ABC-TV Channel 8. Lisa was also the creator/host of “Simply Organized” on Cable TV, for which she won an award for best talk show in the northeast by the Alliance for Community Media Foundation. www.LisaLelas.com

A scene-study of song: exploring musical theatre from an actor’s point of view and examining songs as scenes or monologues. You’ll learn how to break down a song into its acting beats, how to give us information about your character and how to work off your singing partner(s). Materials will be selected from some of Broadway’s best solos, duets and small group numbers. Learn techniques and tricks of the trade to help you best present yourself with confidence and how to select the right audition piece for you. Emily Gatesman has worked throughout the United States as a director, choreographer, performer and dramatic arts instructor.  Her credits include Open Stage in Harrisburg, PA, Arts Connection in NYC, Sierra Repertory Theatre in Sonora, CA, Performance Riverside in Riverside, CA, Noel Community Arts School in Denver, CO and Summerville Arts Charter School in Sonora, CA. She also founded Music with Miss Emily in Mechanicsburg, PA. Emily is currently a manager at Applause Westchester.
